What's the average pay of nurses with diploma

What's the average pay of nurses with diploma?
I am thinking of a career change from a sci lab tech to nursing. I presume the later provides a better opportunity in terms of career advancement and satisfaction. My current job is super routine with minimal interaction with people as well as zero opportunity of advancement. My colleague has been a lab tech for the past 35 years. I am thinking of persuing the accelerated diploma in nursing offered by nanyang polytechnic. However I am just curious about the pay scale of singapore nurses. And also I'm confused how the rank in the nursing industry is like. Eg: (ITE)cert in nursing- enrolled nurse (Poly)dip in nursing- registered nurse or staff nurse??? Deg in nursing-??? I'm quite clueless please enlighten me anyone....

Currently one may become a Registered Nurse by either an two year Associates Degree or a 4 year BSN. If you already have an AD, then check out colleges in your area that offer a BSN, since you're halfway there. Diploma programs for those people with college credit or an AD are a waste of time since the credit you've already earned and paid for can be applied to a four year degree. I'm not sure what you mean by "rank" in the nursing profession (not yet an industry). Most new grads today are starting at any where from $26-30 an hour..depending on where you live, and are also getting sign-on bonuses of $5-10 grand.

2 :
US can be good but also hard because you will have to find out what is necessary to be a certified nurse there as they do have different standards. I know of several who moved from Australia, Canada and UK to the US and then had to do a lot more recertification and college courses than if they had gone to another Commonwealth country. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Dubai all could be good options for you depending on what you want.

I am a filipino and fresh graduate... How can i get job in Singapore?
I am a filipino and fresh graduate in electrical engineering here in the Phil.. My wife is a nurse working for almost six months now in Singapore and I also want to work there but most of the job posting says that for SINGAPOREAN only..
Singapore - 4 Answers

Being a fresh graduate, your chances are quite slim for engineering positions in Singapore. Nevertheless, you can try applying thru local agencies or job portals in Singapore. If you are able to stand out from the crowd, an employer might hire you and get you a legal permit to work in Singapore.
2 :
nothing wrong with locals coming first
3 :
fresh graduate does not mean a guarantee job in singapore context; there r many singaporean fresh graduate also looking for jobs; so it will be harder 4 u 2 compete with them; generally, singapore employers r looking 4 experience in all kinds of jobs so what i would suggest u is to work in ur country 4 some years b4 applying for job here; from my experience even jobs like car wash, dishwashing also need experience; i went 4 these jobs interviews n the interviewers said they preferred with experience;
4 :
if every graduate did actually stick to his own place and land you wouldn't need to go to Singapore in the first place. since qualified people like yourself run like rats off sinking ship sure nothing will ever change for better in your country. plus people like you will put extra strain on already troubled job market in Singapore that as previous comments suggest is already under great pressure and not every local (Singaporean) graduate is able to get job placement (you might get a lower pay but you will take a job that should belong to a LOCAL guy or girl) you should respect Singaporeans for allowing your wife to work there but it seem that you are willing to take off the whole hand when you already got a finger.

As for the USA, I don't think so. I knew this lady who got her nurses degree in Germany...then married a US soldier, so he brought her over to the US with him. She couldn't work as a nurse with her German degree because the US has certain licensing laws. She had to go back and get her GED (degree equivalent to a high school education in the US) so she could get accepted into a US college, then start over from scratch on getting her US nursing degree...I am not sure on CA and Aust.
2 :
Hello, If you are a registered nurse in Singapore, you can apply for a job in US, provided you meet the min. requirements, i.e. the NCLEX and IELTS exams. These are a must and a nurse can only get a job in US with these exams. Of course, you can also go there with CGFNS + IELTS exams, but you can work with CGFNS only as a LPN and the salaries for LPNs are very low. I can provide you with the applications and study materials for both these exams. Please let me know if you are interested. Regards. Bens globalbens@yahoo.com
3 :
If your not a citizen (US) you need a visa ect. You can get one to go to school, for certification while you work. You can apply then for citizenship (US).

Why must i do a IELTS test to register with WA nursing Board, as a Singaporean with Nursing Degree from Monash

Why must i do a IELTS test to register with WA nursing Board, as a Singaporean with Nursing Degree from Monash
I have done my Midwifery (18 months) in UK and a Registered Nurse in Singapore for many years. Is the Degree from Monash done as distance learning not equvilant to their campus study as claimed by them?? Have worked and studied in England and holding a degree from Australia Monash why do I need to do a IELTS test. Are we being discriminated as Singaporean Chinese or am I cheated of my degree? Please give me some sensible answers. Help!

Because that is what they "require." quit whining about it. Don't use "discrimination" as an excuse. Take the test just like everyone else has to do.
2 :
G'day, I understand it must be hard for you to be given such 'silly' conditions. You are from Singapore, and has done courses in English for quite sometime and yet still asked for IELTS test. I do not pretend to know the whole story here, but my guess is b'cos the board is afraid that generally applicants from Asia countries do not have a good English communication skill. It is not that the distance learning degree from Monash is deemed less qualified. Your qualifications are fine (I guess), it is just the English that they worry. Unfortunately I have to agree with the first answerer (altho not the way the person wrote it). It is best to give them their what they ask. If your English is good (which I truly believe it is), then you got no reason to worry. Please do not take it that it is discrimination, since I am sure they ask the same thing to Singaporean Indians as well. Good luck and welcome to Australia.

Some of the best nurses I have had were Singaporean. As an Australian who has lived and worked in 12 different countries I found the Australian 'Hospital trained' nurse good but not the more recent 'University trained' nurses. Singaporean nurses were excellent. Hong Kong nurses were also excellent. Thai nurses were fair. Lao, Cambodian, Malaysian and Indonesian were all poor quality.
2 :
There are no two opinions about it but if the nurses have the necessary academic qualifications they deserve to be styled as professionals.

Is it possible to work as an Enrolled Nurse in Australia while taking a part time nursing degree

Is it possible to work as an Enrolled Nurse in Australia while taking a part time nursing degree?
I planned to do that, but I realised that while the demand for Enrolled Nurses isn't high, it isn't easy to get a nursing job as an EN in Australia.. My main reason is to study a part time degree in Nursing and at the same time, work as an EN in any nearby hospital. I am from Singapore. It won't be easy, but anyone could give any information? thanks.

If you are an enrolled nurse you could apply for an agency and work through them. You will need to bring your qualifications with you and might have to do a conversion at TAFE. Enrolled nurses are trained through a TAFE degree (used to be through a hospital over 2 years), so its something you still need qualifications for.

Singapore's economy is in severe recession. They have sent a lot of foreign workers home. Many countries are getting rid of foreign workers due to high unemployment and deepening recession. The only two countries which have growing economies and are hiring are India and Brazil. Brazil has some needs for specialized workers such as petroleum engineers with deep sea drilling expertise, but has no great need of nurses (they have good nursing schools and plenty of Brazilians in need of jobs). China has laid off over 100 million workers who are desperate for work despite claims of great economic growth (7.9% latest). India needs nurses and is hiring.

Is 108,500 pesos placement fee for a filipino nurse going to singapore correct? I hope I am not being scammed. I just wanted to know more. Maybe the amount is legitimate. But I hope you understand how I feel that it is still considerably a big amount of money.
Health Care - 3 Answers

1 :
Yes you are being scammed.
2 :
Yes you are paying someone to do the hard work for you. There are filipino nurses that come here and just find a job. Some apply for the pre-acceptance visa. They have very much sucess because employers are interested in those who can solve problems and do for them selves. The can't do lot pay agents and have a one in two chance for success. Hint: Yahoo Answers is not an indication of problem solving skills
3 :
That's certainly a lot. I don' think there are any rules 'governing' these so called agencies. So it't based on supply & demand rather than legitimacy. If you are confidant on your skills and have good experience, you can approach the hospitals/group directly. But note the cost of living in Singapore is extremely high and think twice before committing yourself.

Hi there, I am a Singaporean from Singapore. To be a nurse here first and very foremost your nursing practice MUST BE recognized and accepted by our medical councils here. Singapore is among the very top few in the world with world class health care system and has very high expectations from its staff. To be here you need a good qualification (recognized) and an APPROVED visa. The expectations here are very high. If you think that you have the ability or is capable then by all means try your best to apply here.
3 :
Higher education - Perhaps Get a job - depends on your expectations and why you want to come to Singapore. If you are expecting a wonderful and relaxed life like what they have shown in the movies then forget about it. SG has wonderful infra but the people are not that great and they are great at demeaning the service staff and giving a tough time. On the otherhand the cost of living is very high and salary is not that great with little career progression in your line of career. So make a informed decision.

You can always send in your resume via email or snail mail to the local hospitals here, thereby they will arrange an interview with you so you have to make a trip here. If you are coming in, you can apply for a social visit pass when you come in as a tourist. The hospital will arrange the necessary papers for you once your job is confirmed.

Are Filipinos really considered in US as Pacific Islanders and not Asians

Are Filipinos really considered in US as Pacific Islanders and not Asians?
Don’t be fooled at once by the title of the entry. The story behind that statement excludes us. Last year, a friend left the Philippines and went to the United States. In his German class, the students were international. The professor asked who the Asians were and one by one the Asian students introduced themselves. And so it went, the Chinese, the Koreans, the Vietnamese, the Singaporeans etc. all raised their hands. Finally the professor calls this Filipino and asks, Professor: Where are you from? Filipino: Philippines Professor: Oh, Filipinos are not Asians! They are Pacific Islanders! Because ASIANS ARE SMART… In the United States, it is already being taught in schools that Filipinos are not Asians—that we are Pacific Islanders. While there is a lot of reaction against it, I am surprised that many intelligent Filipinos abroad have accepted this without question. Pacific Islands are places like Samoa, Hawaii, Tahiti, Guam, Cook Islands, Mariana Islands—and their common denominator? Most of them do not possess their own national and political identities—they are islands under the jurisdiction and protection of more powerful countries like USA, France and New Zealand. Most of these Pacific Islands are still referred to as â€Å“indigenous natives.” They have very, very small populations and they have no global role or power. While they have their own unique culture and characteristics, they do not hail from any great civilization in the past. Hindi sila lumaban at tumayo para sa sarili nilang lahi. What is even sad, however, is that even Pacific Islanders do not like and do not accept Filipinos! One good example are Hawaiian tourists we met in China. When they learned that we were Filipinos, they disgustingly uttered , â€Å“You eat Balot!” and avoided us like a plague. The statement of this American guy, filled with racism obviously merits strong disapproval. In fact, our friend was so angry after having been humiliated in front of the class. The logical thing to say, is that the Philippines IS part of the ASEAN group of nations. We can also say that Japan is an island in the Pacific Ocean but is not considered a Pacific Island. But we should ask—why would no one dare to call the Japanese people Pacific Islanders? Why pick on the Philippines? Simple. Because Japan has produced cars and we have produced dried mangoes and pastillas. The Philippines has been so left behind by Asian countries that foreigners shake their heads and ask, â€Å“What happened to your country?” Let us not even compare the Philippines with the four Tiger economies, ‘cuz they’re just way way way too far ahead. What about Vietnam and Thailand? I read that for every one Filipino who has a Master’s Degree, Vietnam has 6, Thailand has 25 and Singapore has 200. But why bother to be educated when the national dream is to go abroad? We are scattered from Hongkong to Kazakhstan, from Italy to even North Korea. Thousands of our doctors are becoming nurses. Our teachers become caregivers. Our women become entertainers and prostitutes. Our young people only know one course and that is nursing. Why would foreigners respect us when we do not even respect ourselves? We are the country of Gucci Gangs—our elite own Picassos and they simply have no heart to alleviate and educate the masses, as F. Sionil Jose and Brian Gorrell—the pitiful Australian guy who was robbed by DJ Montano—sadly pointed out. I am reminded of Condoleezza Rice, the first black woman to become the United States Secretary of State. She was born in Alabama and suffered discrimination on account of her color. But she was taught from a young age by her father, that she had to be â€Å“twice as good”and prove that she was deserving of advancement. Condoleezza Rice explains, â€Å“I was going to be so well prepared, and I was going to do all of these things that were revered in white society SO WELL, that I would be armored somehow from racism. I would be able to confront white society on its own terms.” (Washington Post, Lessons of Might and Right, How Segregation and an Indomitable Family Shaped National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, By Dale Russakoff, September 9, 2001) The only way to answer people, who insist that we are uncivilized tribes is not by shooting off our mouths. The only answer is to beat them by studying and working ten times harder than the rest—to beat them not just once or twice, but to do so consistently for the next 20,30, 40, 50 years. Unless we Filipinos are prepared to love our country, and sacrifice ourselves by doing the extra-mile, we really deserve to be called stupid. ~ Lipad-Lawin Source: http://www.thebrownraise.org

who cars really? people in this world are always trying to put a label on something
6 :
What does it matter? The Philippines is in Asia, therefore if you're Filipino you are Asian. It's pretty simple. Being smart or not has nothing to do with anything.
7 :
forgot to mention that Filipinos average the 2nd highest household income out of all asian groups in USA... 1st is Indians.
8 :
OK, first of all, expecting Americans to know the least little thing about geography is expecting way too much of them. I'm married to an African, from Ghana. I have encountered hundreds of people who think that Africa is a country, not a continent; several who've asked me if I went on a "safari" when I went to Africa, and whether or not my husband and kids speak "African" (there are 45 major languages in Ghana alone, not even looking at the other 55 countries on the continent). Anyway, the point is, most Americans are going to have a blank "What are you talking about" look when you try to discuss the Philippines. My doctor is from the Philippines. And I've had previous doctors from there. They are good doctors, esp. the one I have now. MY confusion about the Philippines has to do with a sort-of-Asian look to the people, but Spanish sounding names. And Tagalog doesn't seem to be a language like Chinese and Japanese, since it's written with Latin (Roman) characters. So from that perspective, I can see it being considered as a "Pacific Island" country as opposed to being a part of Asia.

Scholarship or bank loan for a degree

Scholarship or bank loan for a degree?
I'm finished with my nursing course, and i want to get into Flinders University in Adelaide under the Pre-Registration Bachelor of Nursing, but its $18000 p.a. I'm a Malaysian, but a Singapore PR, is there any way that i can get a scholarship? I'm not sure if bank loans are advisable, i'm afraid of paying back the loan amount, with the high interest. Furthermore,my family is not so supportive of me so i'm only depending on myself. Please don't tell me anything about FAFSA or anything that is under the US, they won't be able to help, like i said, I am a Malaysian and a Singapore PR. I am really keen to go,but i just don't know how to get the money. Thanks.

whats the possibility of moving to another country with a degree in Psychiatric Nursing

whats the possibility of moving to another country with a degree in Psychiatric Nursing?
So I am a male, grade 12 high school student here in Canada. I am looking into going to Stenberg College for Psychiatric Nursing after I finish high school. So I was wondering if this type of nursing is truly in demand and with this type of career/degree could I move to the either the U.S, Japan (If over there I plan on taking basic Japanese after I finish PN here in Canada), Australia and or even Singapore to work there as an RPN (Registered Psychiatric Nurse)? Thanks =)

There aren't any jobs in the USA for nursing! Just google "No nursing shortage" or "I hate nursing". Please educate yourself on this field before you waste 4 years and tons of tuition on a dead end major.

What is the best college to attend to in America, San Fransisco, for a bachelors degree in nursing ?
Hello there, i'm a 16 year old secondary school student in Singapore, (Singapore Citizen) sitting for my N'Level examinations in October. I'm in the normal technical stream. Which means, i'm only taking Science, English, Math, Malay Language and Computer applications. I'm planning on taking my SAT's in November right after i take my N's. What kind of marks must i achieve in my SAT's to go to a good nursing college in San Fransisco? and can you please also recommend a good college for me to go to? A one which is not very costly perhaps? Im planning on taking a Bachelors degree. And also, what are the things i can do right now to help me prepare for a good start next year in my nursing course?

Why must i do a IELTS test to register with WA nursing Board, as a Singaporean with Nursing Degree from Monas
