Which pressure groups in the UK are campaigning for the return of the death penalty

Which pressure groups in the UK are campaigning for the return of the death penalty?
I have enjoyed spending much time in Singapore and have marvelled at how people safely walk around at night and also how families leave their children in shopping malls whilst they go to the bank. In the UK this week we see the murder of a policewoman and also a man who stole credit cards from a nurse leaving her locked in a car boot for 10 days. Quite simply criminals have free reign in the UK as they know the law is soft. Let me know if you know groups Thanks Jon

The death penalty does not create a perfect, crime-free Utopia. We had capital punishment in the past. We abolished it for two major reasons. One being that mistakes are made. Another is that it is not a deterrent. Crime still happens. It is no accident that the 13 out of 50 US states which have no death penalty, also have the lowest crime, and the state which executes the most has the worst crime figures. No serious politicians in the UK wants it reinstated, and it would be contrary to our commitments under the terms of the European Convention on Human Rights, which the UK drafted and signed in 1950, against the rules of the Council of Europe, and the EU. The real reason for the apparent low crime in Singapore will be to do with cultural attitudes, not to how criminals are murdered. I suspect that far from being the crime free paradise you describe, Singapore does indeed have crime, murder, robbery and the like. Iraq, Sierra Leone, Angola, S Africa, Columbia, Brazil, Venezuela, Russia, Turkey, China, the US, and many more countries (in fact 85 countries in total) have a worse murder rate than the UK. Granted, Singapore has the second lowest official rate in the world. But how accurate is crime reporting there?

I'm cynical too, but I don't think the death penalty is murder, it's a duly rendered punishment by law.

Singapore's economy is in severe recession. They have sent a lot of foreign workers home. Many countries are getting rid of foreign workers due to high unemployment and deepening recession. The only two countries which have growing economies and are hiring are India and Brazil. Brazil has some needs for specialized workers such as petroleum engineers with deep sea drilling expertise, but has no great need of nurses (they have good nursing schools and plenty of Brazilians in need of jobs). China has laid off over 100 million workers who are desperate for work despite claims of great economic growth (7.9% latest). India needs nurses and is hiring.

Why must i do a IELTS test to register with WA nursing Board, as a Singaporean with Nursing Degree from Monash

Why must i do a IELTS test to register with WA nursing Board, as a Singaporean with Nursing Degree from Monash
I have done my Midwifery (18 months) in UK and a Registered Nurse in Singapore for many years. Is the Degree from Monash done as distance learning not equvilant to their campus study as claimed by them?? Have worked and studied in England and holding a degree from Australia Monash why do I need to do a IELTS test. Are we being discriminated as Singaporean Chinese or am I cheated of my degree? Please give me some sensible answers. Help!

Because that is what they "require." quit whining about it. Don't use "discrimination" as an excuse. Take the test just like everyone else has to do.

G'day, I understand it must be hard for you to be given such 'silly' conditions. You are from Singapore, and has done courses in English for quite sometime and yet still asked for IELTS test. I do not pretend to know the whole story here, but my guess is b'cos the board is afraid that generally applicants from Asia countries do not have a good English communication skill. It is not that the distance learning degree from Monash is deemed less qualified. Your qualifications are fine (I guess), it is just the English that they worry. Unfortunately I have to agree with the first answerer (altho not the way the person wrote it). It is best to give them their what they ask. If your English is good (which I truly believe it is), then you got no reason to worry. Please do not take it that it is discrimination, since I am sure they ask the same thing to Singaporean Indians as well. Good luck and welcome to Australia.
